Đêm 18/5 (giờ Mỹ), lễ trao giải Billboard Music Awards 2014 đã được tổ chức tại Las Vegas. Những cái tên từng làm mưa làm gió trên bảng xếp hạng danh giá này đã được vinh danh ở tổng cộng 39 hạng mục. Trong đó, nhóm nhạc Imagine Dragons và nữ ca sĩ Lorde có 12 đề cử, Justin Timberlake có 11 đề cử, Katy Perry có 10 đề cử.
Chiến thắng lớn nhất ở Billboard Music Awards năm nay là Justin Timberlake với 7 giải giành được trong số 11 đề cử, cụ thể ở các hạng mục Nghệ sĩ xuất sắc nhất, Nghệ sĩ nam xuất sắc nhất, Nghệ sĩ top Billboard 200 xuất sắc nhất, Album top Billboard 200 xuất sắc nhất, Nghệ sĩ Radio xuất sắc nhất, Nghệ sĩ R&B xuất sắc nhất, Album R&B xuất sắc nhất. Với ca khúc Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke cùng T.I. và Pharrell Williams đã nhận về được 4 giải thưởng gồm Ca khúc hot 100 xuất sắc, Ca khúc Radio xuất sắc, Ca khúc Digital xuất sắc và ca khúc R&B xuất sắc. Ở hạng mục nhạc Latin, Marc Anthony đã chiếm trọn cả 3 giải gồm Nghệ sĩ xuất sắc, Ca khúc xuất sắc và Album xuất sắc. Trong khi đó, ở hạng mục nhạc đồng quê chứng kiến sự thắng lợi của Luke Bryan với giải Nghệ sĩ xuất sắc và Album xuất sắc.
Hai cái tên Lorde và Imagine Dragons tuy có nhiều đề cử nhất nhưng chỉ nhận về số giải thưởng khiêm tốn là 2 giải cho Lorde và 3 giải cho Imagine Dragons. Trong khi đó Katy Perry và Miley Cyrus cũng thuộc top dẫn đầu về đề cử nhưng mỗi người cũng chỉ nhận được 1 giải thưởng.
